1 THOUGHT
“Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.”
- 1 Timothy 6:17
I’ve never been a person who can easily stop to smell the roses. I’m very purpose driven. Very internally motivated.
My wife Rebecca has been such a gift to me in this arena. She helps me slow down and appreciate life.
During one season of slowing down, I remember asking the Lord what He wanted me to do that day. I’ll never forget the answer I felt like He gave: “Enjoy.”
Enjoy. That’s what He wanted me to do that day. In that moment, 1 Timothy 6:17 popped into my mind, “God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.”
God’s goodness to us has a purpose… for us to enjoy it!
Here’s the thing—at least this is true for me—enjoyment is a choice. It’s a decision. It’s actively engaging our souls to drink in God’s goodness.
Receiving the warmth of a sunny day.
Drinking a good cup of coffee and watching our favorite show.
Going for a walk in our favorite park.
Listening to our favorite songs.
Drinking in the deep fellowship of time with our best friends.
Eating delicious food.
Reading a great book.
And as we enjoy, it elicits worship. We recognize God as the giver of every good thing and, as we do, praise springs from our hearts.
You’ll only be as joyful as deeply as you choose to actively enjoy God’s goodness.
So hear God’s exhortation to you today: enjoy.
