1 THOUGHT
“My soul followeth hard after thee…” - Psalm 63:8 KJV
I woke up a few mornings ago with those words in my heart. “My soul followeth hard after thee…”
They are the words of David in the wilderness when he is running from Saul. The Psalm begins,
“A psalm of David. When he was in the Desert of Judah. You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.
I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory.
Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you” (Psalm 63:1-3).
I have seen you… beheld your attributes… your love is better than life.
That’s an incredible statement. “Better than life.”
He goes on to say, “On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night” (63:6).
I think of the words of A.W. Tozer,
“Come near to the holy men and women of the past and you will soon feel the heat of their desire after God. They mourned for Him, they prayed and wrestled and sought for Him day and night, in season and out, and when they had found Him the finding was all the sweeter for the long seeking.”
David essentially writes:
I have seen you.
I have encountered you.
And now that I have tasted of your glory, there’s nothing more I want.
I crave God Himself.
What is your soul following after? Let us say—as David did—our God, our souls followeth hard after Thee.
2 QUOTES
“We taste Thee, O Thou Living Bread,
And long to feast upon Thee still:
We drink of Thee, the Fountainhead
And thirst our souls from Thee to fill.”
- St. Bernard
“To have found God and still to pursue Him is the soul’s paradox of love, scorned indeed by the too-easily-satisfied religionist, but justified in happy experience by the children of the burning heart.”
- A.W. Tozer
3 VERSES

“What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ.”
